My dear Blackwood
What say you to another new Contributor from my circle? By this post I send you a charming paper which has just reached me from Algiers. 878 It is only too short. But if you print it I dare say my friend will give more, on a future occasion. If you don't happen to like it send it me without delay.
Many thanks for Maga who is doubly appreciated here among a dearth of books. Bulwer will be a great card! Eliot's new story promises to be first rate.
I shall send you No. II of Sea-Side Studies in a few days. Having made a startling discovery, I thought before promulgating it I should do well to get a scientific friend 879 to repeat the experiments and confirm them. He has done so and I am now ready to write. If we are to have a book out of these papers there must be a due admixture of solid and serious matter.

We return to London early in July and I hope you will still be there. Not only should I like to see you for my own sake, but I would organize a quiet dinner and persuade our excessively umbrageous friend to peer from beneath his umbra, join our party and show himself to you in the flesh. He is so gratified with your treatment of him that I marvel he has not revealed himself already.
