Text: Anderson Galleries Catalogue 1378 (12 December 1918), item 153.
Shotter Mill, | Nr Petersfield.
The probable length of the new novel will be 4 volumes of some three hundred pages each of the size of [Adam Bede] and [Felix Holt,] or near it. 325 You can calculate according to your own edition what is the length of our volumes.
As to its character, it will be a novel of English provincial life, time 1830. But as to its title we are not absolutely fixed, though in all probability it will be [Middlemarch,] and each part will have a subtitle, thus: Part I: [Miss Brooke]; Part II: [Old and Young]; Part III: [Dorothea Married.] If you advertise it, only advertise [Middlemarch] and [Miss Brooke.]
