My dear Bastian
Your paper seems to me not only valuable in itself but one eminently adapted to the [Fortnightly] were it not that both editor and readers might be repelled by the too technical nature of the introduction; my advice is either that you rewrite the first eight pages with a view to an ignorant audience -- or perhaps safer still -- omit this introduction and begin at once with the question of language. 830 I send you back the paper for your decision on this point, and will gladly forward it when revised to Morley.
Shall I write to him at once saying there is such a paper to be had if he has room for it? In case he says [yes] you could send it him direct when finished. In case he says [no] you can try elsewhere. I would send it to Trollope for you if you liked.
Ever yours truly
G. H. Lewes.
