My dear Sir
When you have the m.s. of Middlemarch bound for us will you kindly give directions to have the top edges gilt -- sides uncut, and order the russia to be of a rich dark color.
If Mr. Blackwood thinks of binding the proofs -- I know he did so with some of the other works -- tell him we have some sets kept back here and will send them to him if he wishes. We hope he is getting better. Mrs. Lewes has been laid up with a cold but is now right again. 627
Ever yours truly
