My dear Pigott
Voil'e0 ton affaire. We jog on much as before -- annoyances and pleasaunces. I suppose you have seen that that gentleman Newby tries to deceive the public with a Sequel to Adam Bede? If you could put some brief paragraph in the D[aily] N[ews] which would be copied in the other papers, stating on authority, that the work is not by the author of Adam Bede and hinting that such counterfeits are very immoral, it would do good.
Yes we must have an orgie soon. Old Spencer is back again and must join us. 485
Ever yours faithfully
G. H. L.
