My dear Main
We had rightly divined the reason of not hearing from or seeing you, and were glad for your sake that you had made the choice. Your account of the trip reassures us; there is a health of enjoyment from every line.
Our stay here has been delightful in its solitude and the beauty of the country; but has not been so beneficial to our health as might have been expected and was wished. Mrs. Lewes although better on the whole, has had no little malaise, and is not strong. She is hard at work however. My headaches and dyspepsia have been rather worse if anything since we left London -- but I also am working hard and that may have something to do with it!
The revision of my second volume has turned out to be a rewriting of it -- I hope to its advantage; and there is still much to be done. Therefore I do not think we shall leave England this autumn -- or only for a week or two if at all. We stay here till the end of September.
As you are a lover of Wordsworth you will delight in Dorothy's Journal. 132
