My dear Sir
I had already dispatched your work when your second letter arrived. Mrs. Lewes will write to you in a day or so.
The Ded. and Pref. I have not shown her. Two small alterations I have made. One a matter of English -- the other a matter of prudence. It would not do for the public to suppose she had had any share in the book, beyond that of giving permission to its being executed.
