My dear Sir
Mr. Blackwood has too many letters to write for me to think of troubling him on so slight a matter but I should be glad if you would drop me a line to say how the subscription of Book II stands. The effect of the book on those readers it affects is all one could desire, and this must, one would hope, in time haul in the general public. But 'tis an incalculable animal the general Reader!
