Charles, having passed a first-rate examination and beaten all his competitors, was appointed to his clerkship in the P.O. and this morning I went with him to introduce him to his chiefs. 610 After a fatiguing expedition to various places in the city, met Polly at the station and accompanied her to Laurence's where she sat for her portrait. Home at \'bd past 5 dead tired. Blackwood wrote sending account of sales of the "Physiology" -- for which \'a3256.6.6 is my share at present. This is more than anticipated.
