My dear Sir
I do not admire the cases for the Spanish Gypsy, they could hardly be plainer, and all one pattern in different colours. Our idea was to have the Book externally as nice looking as we have made the inside -- fit for a Drawing-Room Table, and not merely what would do for the Circulating Library which is all that these cases are fit for. I think there should be some gold on the outside and it would be worth while to give the ornamentation a Spanish or Morish style.
It appears to me that when we have a Book to publish that we know to be a first rater we should let it be seen that we appreciate it by doing the best that can be done for its externals. So I hope the question of binding will be reconsidered. I return 2 of the Cases, keeping one as Mr. Blackwood may wish to see it.
Master Jack has come into my room enquiring for you in his usual familiar style and utterly amazed to hear you had been a week in London.
A want of consideration on your part certainly not to have communicated your movements to the venerable Gentleman!
What a privilege you had in getting into the House on Thursday to be witness of a scene you will never forget. 759 How wild the rascals must be. Surely sensible people must be disgusted at the recent exhibition of the cloven foot among them, the blackguard demagogues.
No letter from Strathtyrum today. Too busy of course this week to think of anything but the noble game.
I must not trespass on your time writing me so often, but thank you heartily for what you have been good enough to tell me. I am my dear Sir
