My dear Mr. William
I am very much obliged by your letter with its enclosures received this morning, and I thank you for handsomely advancing the payment for Theophrastus beyond the ratio mentioned in our agreement. It would all have been cheerful but that both your letter and Mr. Blackwood's contain ground for renewed anxiety about his health. Pray send me a line when you can give me better news.
I am under stress of a family party in the house today, and only send a hasty note, just to let you know that your letter has reached me safely. I will write to Mr. Blackwood when I am more at leisure.
You must have an increased load on your shoulders now, and I hope you are strong to bear it.
