My dear Mr. William
Your letter of yesterday 503 has not yet reached me but the Times tells me its purport. I am mourning with you our irreparable loss. Perhaps none outside your family will feel it more than I do.
I cannot intrude on such sorrow as Mrs. Blackwood's, but she and all of you, whenever you have leisure to think of me, will know that I am a sharer in all grief for the friend who is lost to me -- except in the memory of his goodness.
Yours always truly,
M. E. Lewes.
