October 3. 78.
My dear Mr. William
I send by today's post the additional matter for the reprint of [Jubal] etc. Pray give orders that the proof sheets of the whole volume be sent to me, as I am anxious to see that all the corrections in the copy I forwarded (along with the corrected copy of [Daniel Deronda]) are accurately made.
I should have sent this additional matter before, but that I was expecting to see proofs of [The Spanish Gypsy,] which I suppose is now near completion. I trust that the reprint of Deronda was made from the corrected copy. 138 Your uncle's delightful letter, with the good news about his health, tells me that you were at Strathtyrum on the 29th, but four or five days' interval may have brought you back to Edinburgh, so I address to George Street.
We are having lovely calm autumn days and hope to stay here till the beginning of November.
Always yours truly
M. E. Lewes.
Please let us have a copy of the Birthday Book.
