Dear Sir
As our talk yesterday wandered considerably from the object of your visit I fear that you may not have carried away a clear impression of what I intended to say. To prevent any misunderstanding which may lead to disappointment on your part it will perhaps be well for me to write my conclusions more definitely than I may have been able to express them in conversation.
With all obligation to you for your deference to my wishes, I must repeat that I can have nothing whatever to do with the adaptation of my work 530 to the stage, and I must decline to have my name connected with such adaptation.
It is unnecessary for me to enter into my reasons which are too many and various to be overcome. I am only anxious to save you from any waste of time and energy which might be due to my want of explicitness. Believe me dear Sir,
