Dear Sir Henry
We returned on Monday Evening and only yesterday did I find your kind note written to me on the 9th of May.
The assurance of your and Lady Holland's friendship and good wishes is much valued by me and I like to think that if you have not found me an undesirable neighbour, I shall be a little more interesting to you because of Mr. Cross's more companionable [one word cut out] presence.
I am sure that he will like to become acquainted with you, but I imagine that until Parliament rises you will be only by short intervals at Witley. 457
Lady Holland, I hope, is altogether enjoying the delicious stillness here, which seems to us to make life a new thing after the noise of continental towns. I am always
