The portrait is very beautiful, dear Sara, and I think it a treasure. Yet greedy thing that I am, I long for one of Cara too.
Do you know, I had never thought of 'aby'bbour birthdays! I have such an un-anniversary-keeping mind. But you always think of things that give opportunities for feeling and doing what is kind and pretty.
Mr. Lewes is distressed that he didn't know about the birthday too, that he might have put something into my slippers this morning. Ah how much I have to be happy and thankful about every fresh birthday. Life seems worth twice as much to me now as it was even last November. And the assurance of your constant love becomes more precious as all other things become more precious when we have a brighter light within to see them by.
