My dear Sara
Thank you for your observations. I have not been able to look into the M.S. yet, but when I do I shall consider all your suggestions. Will you have the kindness to return me the M.S. you now have as soon as possible? -- that is, of course, when you have read it. I enclose six stamps, that you may send it as a pamphlet, with the ends open, by post.
I shall send you Feuerbach's Preface soon. I wish you could have the German at the same time to amuse you. It is very curious that while his text is -- for a German -- concise, lucid and even epigrammatic now and then, his Preface reads like a caricature of the faults of German writing generally, one sentence is nearly a page and a half long! 436 I have done my best to save this from appearing in the English, but I wish you to pay particular attention to the Preface and to mark everything which seems odd and does not flow easily -- as it is very important that this preface should be read.

It is such a comfort to have at least one person who can appreciate one's work. The dreariness of giving such a translation to Mr. Chapman who neither knows what is in itself good English nor what is the difficulty of truly representing German!
