Dear Sara
Yes, indeed -- when I do not reciprocate -- "chaos is come again." 686 I was quite sure your letter would come and was grateful beforehand.
It was very pleasant to have Cara with us for [the] good part of a day. I was rather proud of Mr. Lewes's being so well then, but alas, since that evening he has had five days of continuous headache! However, a better interval has come, and we live in hope that the alternations of a cold east wind and mugginess will not be perpetual.
Cara told us about the piano next door to you. No two people on earth could feel more sympathy in such misery than we do. The millennial prospect of some day getting away from the terrace 687 and going to Ivy Cottage is something to dwell on as a relief.
There is a scheme on foot for a women's college, or rather university, to be built between London and Cambridge, and to be in connection with the Cambridge university, sharing its professors, examinations and degrees! "Si muove." 688
I suppose you will not move until you have finished your volume, 689 but then you will surely try a little change.
