Saturday Morning.
Dear Sara
If there are some opinions in the 1st article of the Rev[iew] which give you pause, pray mitigate your concern by reflecting that they are contradicted in the 2d. So of the 3d and 4th, and I daresay there are sundry other pretty discrepancies in the remainder to accommodate differing tastes and theories. I hope to have the benefit of your criticism both by letter and by Herald.
When I was reading your congratulations that my teeth were "settled" I was racked with pain, and the next day I had the tooth which Mr. Barclay had stopped taken out by another dentist -- a man with [bowels] who will risk giving chloroform. I was quite unconscious during the extraction and only began to protest that I would not submit to the operation when the tooth was lying on the table before me.
This affair hindered me from dining at Sir J. Clark's again to meet the Combes and the Pulzskys 336 -- for which I was more sorry than for the loss of most dinings-out. On Wednesday evening Mr. and Mrs. C. 337 and I went to Blandford Sq. to meet Mr. R. Noel, who was more agreeable than I ever saw him before. Tell Mr. Bray that Mr. N. spoke very admiringly of him and inquired about him with much interest. He called on me the next day with Mrs. Jameson 338 twice and I was unfortunately not in. Vexing that, for I wanted to see Mrs. J., and this is the third time I have missed doing so.
I am going to hear Berlioz' new opera tonight 339 -- an [experience] I have looked forward to with great expectation.
What do you mean by saying that you fear the Whitby trip will drop through? Surely not. Business is not disappointing? I take tea with the Combes tomorrow and am to see the Pulzskys at whom I am a little frightened -- she being a genius and he an encyclopaedia.
Love to the good friends who think it worth having -- and even if not -- love.
