Dear Sara
Yes, he is an apostle. An apostle, it is true, with a back and front drawingroom, but still earnest, convinced, consistent, having fought a good fight and now peacefully enjoying the retrospect of it. I shall leave these good friends on Wednesday evening with regret, almost with repentings that I did not determine to pay them a longer visit. I have had a pleasant note from Miss Martineau this morning with a vignette of her house 203 -- I suppose to make me like all the better the idea of going there. I will not fail to deliver your message. Thanks many for your letter -- I have read it once but shall save another reading, as you recommend, for the railway, for these last two days are quite full here. Mrs. Crewe came to dinner on Saturday. She is really agreeable, and I shall be glad to see more of her in London, where she is going to reside. 204 She comes to tea to-morrow.
Give my thanks to Mr. Bray for the newspapers -- I read the sanitary letters and thought them good. Wretched news as usual from London. Beatrice 205 is at home with scarlet fever!
Love to the dear souls next door. 206 It is 12 o'clock at night and time I was in bed.
