May 29.
My dear Sara
I am quite able to enter into the troubles of sore throat and inflamed gums -- they have been visitants of mine on the slightest pretext for the last year or two; but your wearing cough is a trouble which I am less experienced in. I hope that you are all finding relief from the pleasant change in the weather.
We have taken a house for a few months and have been in the country now for the last week, but we don't want any one to know our address, as we desire perfect quietude. We rejected some pleasant places, because they were in the neighbourhood of friends.
Cara was kind enough to send us a card giving the address of the Mote at Ightam, 524 which we had heard of before as having been inhabited by the Hensleigh Wedgwoods, 525 last summer, I think. It is very picturesque, they say, but it is inconveniently out of the way for us, under our present arrangements. Please to give Cara my love and thanks for the unacknowledged card.
We have two of our own servants with us and on the whole are very well off, though the pictures in the drawing room are chiefly such as one would pay to be rid of.
Don't you long for some persistently warm months? It seems as if summer were being withdrawn from our temperate zone, and really our mildest weather -- that in which one is least persecuted by winds -- often comes from November to Christmas.
It would interest me whenever you write again to hear how Harriet is now. It is long since you gave me any account of her, and I should be glad to know that she is not an increasingly anxious subject of thought to you. Always, dear Sara
Your affectionate
Pollian.
