MS: Yale. Endorsed: July 1852. Hitherto unpublished.
Dear Sara
These are very shabby autographs which I send you, but as Mr. C. is an amateur of autographs himself, I find it difficult to get even these. J. S. Mill, C. Knight, Theodore Parker, 124 and R. M. Milnes, "our good Richard," are the names.
I enclose a letter of Mr. Atkinson's for your edification. Please to return it. I have just had a very charming one from Miss Parkes, too, who is out at Slough and asked me to go to her among the cornfields. She is a dear, good creature. I wish I could throw myself heartily into the love of other women besides you and Cara -- but somehow the male friends always eclipse the female -- pardon the word.
Ever thine, in haste,
Pollian.
