Beloved Achates,
I have considered the subject of division, or rather the division of the subject, and I am decidedly for beginning the third volume with the history of the Passion i.e. the third Part. The transfiguration and entrance into J[erusale]m extend over only 40 pages, and they would make no great difference either way.
I am going to have visitors all next week, so that I shall not have so much done by the time Mr. Bray goes to London as I could wish. But [things must be as they may.] 609 Thanks for a sight of the letter to Strauss. <I protest against the Bezeichnung of myself as far away both from the truth and the point, but there can be no great harm done.> 610
I cannot believe that I ever translated the passage "am wenigsten bloss psychisch zu heilenden etc." 611 in the way given by the proof -- there must have been some bungling in the way of putting the words in the M.S. It is not ambiguous, for am wenigsten always signifies the least -- wenigstens, at least. I have followed your plan of chiaro-oscuro erasure, which I understand to signify that a sentence is quite private or to be taken no practical notice of.
