So far as I know, husbands are not bound to stand on their head when their wives tell them -- therefore -- I do not fly to Rosehill 795 this morning -- you have no conception of the whirlpool in which I have been and am still revolving. I send you the [Shadows.] As for Froude he is a "shadowless man" from henceforth, for I have stolen his shadow 796 and shall carry it about with me in my "Portmanteau" (in the Frenchman's sense).
Tell Mr. Bray he must come to me this evening for I want his advice and help. Please to send back by the man my copy of Miss Flower's Waverley Songs. 797
