Dearest Sara
The sweet pictures 789 came to me when I was in bed with miserable headache and sickness, and it was not until yesterday that I could bear even to look at anything. I should have sent you word of their safe arrival and warm welcome last night, but when I had walked home with Cara I found that the letter-bag was gone. Dear Sara -- you always know what will give me the most pleasure in the world -- I thanked you with delicious happy tears -- the only tears almost that I ever shed now. I could hardly believe it was a waking fact that any one loved me well enough to speak to my heart in that sweet way. If I am thought worth putting into a coffin I should like my little pictures to go with me.
I am not at all well today so I will not try to write long or I should only write miserably. You know that Father is much worse?
