My dear Sara,
As I have been obliged to lose two days this week, and shall have to give a third to my teeth I do not think it worth while to wait for the week's harvest, so I send you last week's, with the part you returned by Mrs. Bray's parcel. I am glad you sent it. Thank you for all little notes thrust in between the proofs. They are very refreshing in this valley of Baca. 585 I am never pained when I think Strauss right -- but in many cases I think him wrong, as every man must be in working out into detail an idea which has general truth, but is only one element in a perfect theory, not a perfect theory in itself. I have not another minute.
Thine.
