Dear Sara
Thanks, late and brief, for your letter which came the other day with Cara's. I am so preoccupied with finishing work and with prospective ideas of packing and removal that I can write no letter worth having. However, as you are interested in Herbert Spencer, it will perhaps be worth knowing to you that we have heard good news of him. He writes us word that his health is already much improved by his stay at Tr'e9port, a place on the coast, and he wants us to meet him in Paris next month. But neither our inclination nor our pocket says yes, so we content ourselves with not seeing either him or the Exhibition, 628 and shall go to seek polyps and health at Worthing.
I wonder if Frank 629 is yet come to you, and if you are all rested from your visit. I was sorry to miss you that last day that you called. Our walk had beguiled us further than usual -- indeed I think it was the day we had a boat on the Thames and were obstinately resisted on our return by the spring tides which, as the Boatman said, "tries a fellow, them does."
