My dear Nephew
We have been settled in the country for the summer since the beginning of June, and your letter was forwarded to me a few days ago. In the variety of my preoccupations I have omitted to write you a note which would account to you for my not having at once answered your proposal to call on me. You would conclude, however, that I was out of town. I hope you would have been able to tell me that your family was well and happy, and that the subject which you believed would engage my sympathy was not any calamity.
If you feel any desire to write to me what you had not the opportunity of telling me viva voce, please address the letter to our house in town, from which it will be forwarded. 113 Believe me, with best remembrances,
