Dear Miss Marks, --
Your good news about our dear Madame Bodichon was the best of Christmas gifts to me this morning. . . . I shall be delighted to see you when you come to London, but do not call before half-past four, as I am always out between lunch and that time. I long to have more minute details about Mme. Bodichon than a note can give me. But that she has a drive and walk every day is at least a starting-point for pleasant fancies about her.
The Voyage of the [Challenger] 795 is a splendid book, is it not? Your own studies and health have been going on well, I hope. But you will tell me everything when I see you.
