Dear Mr. Browning
A thousand thanks! The photos have arrived safely, and shall be safely guarded, until your return from your holiday journeyings, which I hope the sun will smile on mildly. I should think it is wise of you to give up Russia. It is good to be saved from too much of that hurry which is the "Occidental" disease.
You probably know the volume of Lowell's poems 875 published a few months ago. There is a fine heroic spirit in them, especially in the Commemoration Ode 876 -- and they are lighter reading than the "Hymns to the Maruts." 877
I am interested in the Fragments you have sent me: there is a touch of originality in them.
Yours always sincerely
M. E. Lewes.
Oscar Browning Esq.
