MS: Berg Collection, New York Public Library.
The Priory, | 21. North Bank, | Regents Park.
Monday morning.
My dear Mrs. Call
I wish I could thank you and Mr. Call for the precious gift which Mr. Lewes brought home from you the other day, so as to represent all I feel about it. That can hardly be -- for I should have to explain many inward conditions of mine which make me peculiarly susceptible to such marks of kindness. I must be satisfied with telling you that I enjoy not only the possession of the gift; I enjoy also the feeling of gratitude towards two friends who have had me in their minds as worthy of their regard.
We are going "on the tramp" again for a week or so. Always, with keen memory
Yours affectionately
M. E. Lewes.
