My dear Mrs. Evans
I feel your kindness in writing to me under my heavy affliction. At the time your letter came I was unable even to read the words of sympathy which the goodness of my friends poured in upon me. I am able now to go over all these proofs of tender feeling and to find them a blessing, though not a joy. My joy is buried. I am ill in body, but that only makes me the more anxious to thank you while it is yet time.
I trust that you have all that a mother's heart could wish in your family. Yours with affectionate memory
