Dear Mrs. Strachey
Your letter, very sweet to me to read, written on the 14th of May, has lain awaiting me all the long time till last Wednesday when it was brought me from the Priory. Thank you, dear friend, for your cordial words.
We arrived here on the 26th, glad to be at home on all accounts except the weather, which is sadly in contrast with our three months of continental warmth and sunshine. In writing to you after so long an interval I half think you will be farther away from London than Stowey House, but some time this note will meet your eyes to assure you how much I like being remembered by you.
We shall probably not be in London till the beginning of November, but then I hope you will come and see me at 4 Cheyne Walk, Chelsea, which perhaps will not lie very much out of your usual tracks. Mr. Cross, I am sure, would feel it an advantage to know you better.
The General is probably yearning for a needed holiday. Please commend me to him, and believe me always,
