Thanks for your letter about dear Mrs. Smith. 100 I have written to her.
How very generous Mr. Taylor has been in taking trouble about a house for us! We both of us felt that the place he had found was not only tempting in the description, but guaranteed by his judgment as well as it would have been by our own inspection. Unhappily, the distance from town is made all the graver obstacle by the state of my health, which makes me nervous about being away from all the succour to be found in my own home -- without the sense that I could easily get back to it at any moment. I have been suffering from neuralgic pains and inflamed gums, and have been quite confined to the house for a week or more. The least draught, or exposure to an unfriendly wind brings some form of ailment in me, owing to my being in an unusually weak condition. However, what I wanted to tell was not the long chapter of my ailments, but my gratitude to Mr. Taylor for taking trouble on our behalf.
Mr. Lewes presents affectionate remembrances to Snowball and Buff with homage to their patroness. Our united thanks and regards to Mr. Taylor.
