The Heights, Witley, | Nr. Godalming.
May 25. 79.
My dear Mrs. Harrison
I had heard of the sorrowful reason for your being shut in. Hence the better news of you brought me by your kind letter this morning is doubly welcome. But apart from any fear about you a sign of your remembrance would make the day pleasanter.
I fell ill the last week I was in town and was obliged to leave much undone, else I should have written to you. I have not yet recovered my former level, but I hope soon to do so under country influences.
Tell Mr. Harrison that I keep by me two letters of his and sometimes re-read them when I feel in need of a moral stimulus which is half rebuke, half encouragement. 241 Believe me always
Yours affectionately
M. E. Lewes.
