December 1866.
My dear Mrs. Linton,
By a sudden decision, founded on Mr. Lewes's growing need of rest, we start for the South to-morrow evening. I send you word of this lest you should kindly come next Sunday and not find us.
I daresay we shall be at home again early in March, and I hope we shall then have the pleasure of receiving you with less haggard faces than we have to show now.
Always sincerely yours,
M. E. Lewes.
