Dear Friend
You will cease to think me worth caring for, since all the signs of regard that I give you are unverified words. We are driven away from town again before I have had an opportunity of getting to you as I longed to do. The cause of this second flight is the return of Mr. Lewes's nervous exhaustion. Dr. Reynolds is so far comforting in his opinion, 195 that he declares the symptoms to be those of mere weakness, and recommends bracing air and rest from brain-work as sufficient remedies. We must not grumble at being driven from home in this world of the many homeless. But I would willingly have been stationary till August.
We are to start for Cromer on Wednesday or Thursday. After Cromer, we shall probably choose Whitby, and we shall keep away from London till about the end of July. Then we shall have a peep at our home again, before going to our favourite spot in Surrey. This programme is of no value to you, but I give it because if Fate should send you and the children to the Yorkshire coast and precisely to Whitby, it would be worth while for me if not for you, that you should inquire for me at the P.O. Goodby, dear Friend. The thought of you is much cherished by
Yours affectionately
M. E. Lewes.
