Dear Cara
I felt special thanks, though I did not write them, for your words of love written to me from Wales. Sara delights me with her account of your enterprise in climbing the mountains and the good you seemed to get in body and mind. But now I am chiefly concerned to know whether the change of editorship announced in the Coventry Herald, which I found here on my return home yesterday, implies an arrangement which is advantageous to Mr. Bray. I know it is tiresome to be asked questions which one must answer in writing, but I mention my desire for knowledge that, when an easy opportunity offers, one of you may tell me what the said announcement means.
Your book, I imagine, is being reserved until the right time for advertising school books. I shall be one of your first pupils, for I am taking to an eager study of geography in my old age.
Mr. Lewes and I have been taking our beautiful old walks at Richmond, which have such dear associations for us. Mrs. Congreve came to say goodby to me there, before a departure to Italy, Mr. C's health requiring the search for a mild climate during the winter and early spring.
We are plunged just now in affairs that require both thought and action, and were very much in need of the opportunities for long quiet talk that we found under the Richmond trees. Tell Sara I am grateful for every little note of hers -- always full of matter that I care about. But I will not write to her just yet -- not until I am more at leisure, or have something pleasant to tell. Best love to all from
