My dear Cara
One of my wants on our return home is to know how you have all borne the severities of this terrible winter. We escaped them for the greater part, having lived chiefly in delicious summer during our long flight which reached as far as the South of Spain. After staying a month at Biarritz, we made our way to San Sebastian, Saragossa, and Barcelona; then by sea to Alicante and Malaga; then over the mountains to Granada, Cordova and Seville, returning homeward by Madrid.
Mr. Lewes says he never enjoyed a journey more and it has answered the great end of restoring him to comparative health. So you perceive that we are fortunate and altogether uninteresting people. I have nothing to tell except travellers' stories, which are always tiresome, like the description of a play which was very exciting to those who saw it.
But I want to know what you can tell me -- so be generous and let me know it. Health is the chief thing, and after that everything that can seriously affect your life.
Sara will perhaps like to hear that we saw R'e9nan in Paris, and had much of his conversation. He seemed to me very like an amiable dissenting minister. With best love to all
