October 20. 69.
My dear Cara
Thornie is dead. He died last night, very gently. Nurse and I raised him and his last breathings were quite peaceful. When death comes, it always seems worse than anything else -- but it is not really so. I am too crushed now to feel that the dear boy is saved from a life of almost certain deprivation and helplessness.
Always your loving
Marian.
