Dear Cara
On Saturday I wrote to Sara telling her that we were about to start for Italy 260 -- not writing to you because I was uncertain as to your whereabout. This morning I have received a note from her telling me of your dear Nelly's severe illness, and I cannot rest without sending a word in sign of my deep sympathy with you in this trouble. I only hope that Sara's fears are naturally exaggerated by the fact of her absence: trouble always seems heavier when it is only one's thought and not one's bodily activity that is employed about it.
Sara writes that she has sent on my letter to her, so that I need tell you nothing further about our own destination. The object of this little note is only to vent some of the sadness I feel at the new weight that is pressing on you and Mr. Bray.
