Dear Cara
As long as you can't afford the express, always come to London by the 12.30 train. It eventuates a spanker. I reached the E[uston] S[quare] Station 487 as dusty as an old ledger but with no other "incommodity" and a civil porter attended to me without delay. Yesterday Mr. Combe called. He and Mrs. C. set out on their journey on Sunday. Mr. Chapman is looking brighter, having got another letter of the alphabet, as Mr. Combe says, a G. or H. to satisfy the claims of E. and F. 488
I went to the Lyceum last night to see "Sunshine through the Clouds" 489 -- a wonderfully original and beautiful piece by Madame de Girardin, which makes one cry rather too much for pleasure. Vestris 490 acts finely the bereaved mother passing through all the gradations of doubt and hope to the actual recovery of her lost son.
My idea of you is rather bright just now and really helps to make me enjoy all that is enjoyable. That is part of the benefit I have had from my pleasant visit, which was made up of sunshine, green fields, pleasant looks and good eatables -- an excellent compound. Best love to all from
