Dear Cara
I have read through "Paul Bradley" and like it well. This morning I have written a letter to Macmillan in readiness for Mr. Lewes to take together with your beautifully legible manuscript, the first time he goes up to town. We prefer not trusting the manuscript to the post, unless it were absolutely necessary. When I hear from Macmillan in reply I will immediately let you know, and I only scribble this note now to make you understand the sources of delay, and to prevent you from thinking (as I should be inclined to do myself) that the quality of your work is in fault.
I daresay Macmillan may think it more suitable for a special publisher of children's books, but I have asked him to give me his advice, and he is sure to be obliging.
