GE to Caroline [Mrs. Charles] Bray, [Richmond, 29 March 1858]
MS: Yale. Hitherto unpublished.
Monday.
Impossible, my dear Cara, though I give you twenty spiritual kisses for wishing it. 1105 We set out next Monday, and there are all sorts of insuperable reasons why I couldn't leave home in the interim. But the aforesaid lady will not fail to make her appearance at Ivy Cottage and she will not turn Nelly out of her bed.
Mr. and Mrs. Call came to see us yesterday, to our great pleasure. We talked of you with less of that abuse than might be expected of affectionate friends in your absence. But we must not demand a too consistent affection from our intimate friends. It will sometimes happen that they are not as damaging in their remarks as they might be.
In haste, ever your loving
Marian.
