Dear Friends
Your love and goodness are a comforting presence to me everywhere -- whether I am ninety or only nine miles away from you. Chrissey bears her trouble much better than I expected. Money matters are not in the very worst state. We hope that an advantageous arrangement may be made about the practice, and there is a considerable sum in debts to be collected. Scarcely anything, however, is to come from the father's property -- almost all had been anticipated by loans.
I shall return to town on Wednesday by a train which leaves Hampton 252 at 4.20. It would have been a comfort to see you again before going back, but there are many reasons for not doing so. I am satisfied now that my duties do not lie here -- though the dear creatures here will be a constant motive for work and economy.
