Dearest Bessie
Where do you think we are going in half an hour's time? -- To Swanmore Parsonage, Ryde, to stay for a few days with Barbara. We shall be home again next week, and I will write to you immediately on our return to say when I can see you. If you have anything to say meanwhile, write to me at Barbara's.
Alas alas for the sorrows of poor France! -- That is the haunting thought, wherever one goes. And I fear you have a large share in these sorrows.
I heard of your boy 242 through your own letter to Barbara which she sent on to me in the summer.
