Dearest Barbara,
The mushrooms -- there is poetry as well as scent in the bare word, -- are not yet come, but I don't wait for them before I thank you for this morning's note, containing the information about the P.O. It is everything we wanted to know.
Not a glorious morning for the wedding! 328 But the raindrops are a good omen, you know. We have not been without our wishes for all good to your sister, both for her sake and yours. Indeed your last letter but one, called up very deep feeling about you. 'abNo one you [six words indecipherable] anything else in the world.'bb I am scribbling in the greatest hurry, just before going into the fresh air. I can only say, '91Don't be vexed at anything in the note Mr. Lewes sent you yesterday.'92 It was best you should see just what the man said.

This morning I have had quite an enthusiastic letter from Herbert
Spencer about '91Adam Bede.'92 329 Forgive him his trespasses! He says he has not changed towards us, and what a man is not conscious of he must not answer for.
