August 23. 1873.
Dear Barbara
We are just come home, but we shall not be in town more than ten days before going into the country (to Blackbrook, near Bromley) for at least two months.
I am wondering what can have determined you to brave again the voyage to Algiers, but I trust that you are now strong enough to endure the evils both of sea and land. I will not tell you anything about the vicissitudes of our journeying, which ended only this morning. You will come to us and hear.
My best and affectionate regards to your sister and to Miss Edwards.
I am unable to interpret the "little pots" which are mysterious to me as the seven vials.
Yours always lovingly
Marian.
