March 15. 78.
Dearest Barbara
It makes me rather unhappy this morning to think of your having had a new drawback. But perhaps no delicate person could escape something of the kind under the fluctuating severities of the weather. I too have been tormented with sore throats and seem to get a fresh one each time I go out.
Marquis's 28 letters are charming and thoroughly satisfactory in their indications of her moral nature. Be sure that I bear her in my mind with affectionate interest both for her sake and yours.
Dear Bessie came to see me one Sunday a little while ago. 29 I always get a fresh sense of her goodness and sweetness of nature whenever I have a glimpse of her.
Mrs. Allingham, who looks very blooming again and seems to be painting with great zest, asks for news of you with much feeling whenever I see her. And so does Mrs. Burne Jones.
But I will tell you what dissatisfies me in the scheme of the Universe: it is, that you are fixing yourself in Sussex while we are fixing ourselves in Surrey. And railways are no help for it. I wonder whether you have found a suitable house ad interim, as you desired to do.
God bless you, dear. Let somebody write us a card to say how you are by and by.
Yours ever lovingly
M. E. L.
