My dear Barbara
The picture looks glorious this morning, now there is a better light in the room, and it will be the cause of many happy thoughts to me about many things -- beginning with your sweet friendship. Also, the plums were nice yesterday, and I am looking forward to the figs and peaches. Grace 811 begged me to look at her herbs this morning -- your bunches which she hung up proudly.
O dear, I know only one thing in the world better than being loved and petted -- and that is, loving others perfectly, without guile and without one mite of bitterness.
You see, my thanks consist in trying to let you know how much delight your goodness gives me. I see many, many things in the picture this morning, which I did not see yesterday, and I dare say I shall see more to-morrow.
